The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
