Amid a defiant signal to Western nations, Leader Vladimir Putin has told PM Narendra Modi that Russia stands ready to maintain “continuous” deliveries of energy resources to India. These remarks came as the two leaders met in Delhi and affirmed their relationship were “immune to outside influence.”

A Message Aimed at the Western Countries

The statement, issued after the annual summit, appeared to be a direct challenge at the United States and its allies, which have tried to compel New Delhi into reducing its longstanding ties with Moscow. The backdrop is in response to recent American measures, notably the introduction of tariffs targeting New Delhi due to its purchase of discounted Russian crude.

“Our nation is a trustworthy supplier of energy resources and anything needed for the advancement of India’s energy sector,” the Russian president stated. “We are ready to persist in ensuring the uninterrupted supply of resources for the rapidly growing Indian economy.”

Modi, while not mentioning oil directly, reinforced the theme by saying that “secure fuel supplies has been a key and crucial pillar of the Indo-Russian alliance.”

Questioning US Interference

Before the summit, via a media interview, Putin had criticized Washington's stance on India's energy purchases. He argued, “If the US has the right to buy our nuclear fuel, how can you deny India have the identical right?”

This trip represented his initial journey to India following the beginning of the situation in Ukraine, and both sides engaged in a visible show to display that the bond between the two leaders was undisturbed.

A Personal Greeting
