Grief as Renowned South African DJ Shot Dead in the City of Johannesburg.
A popular South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country struggling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the downtown area on a Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the 40-year-old entertainer was confronted by three individuals, with one began shooting at him before fleeing on foot.
The purpose behind the shooting has not been established and no arrests have taken place, as per the official statement.
How It Happened
Law enforcement revealed that Stock was targeted as he was leaving a location near the city center landmark.
He had devoted time at the property managing the implementation of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by unidentified individuals, it was reported.
"The report indicates the man was confronted by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before fleeing the scene on foot," authorities said.
Surveillance tape showed a man with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what looked like a guard's attire opening fire on Stock before running away.
The DJ tried to run away after he was wounded but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.
Officials noted that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the attack.
Important clues, like bullet casings, were discovered at the location.
Call for Public Assistance
Authorities have requested anyone who saw the event who may have seen the suspects to come forward.
"We know they covered significant ground after the shooting, and police have been following their trail to find their destination," added an official.
Family and Public Reaction
His family member, a close relative, stated the family was struggling to come to terms with the loss.
"Words fail me. I cannot express the pain," she said.
"We know he was a representative for countless citizens. He spoke out bravely about topics not many people were willing to tackle. This is a tremendous loss."
She requested the public to not sharing disturbing footage from the incident, explaining this was an incredibly difficult time, particularly for Stock's children.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a reality show that aired on a South African TV network.
In addition to his work in broadcasting, Stock was involved in various commercial activities, including protective services, supplying VIP protection services and securing high-profile events across South Africa.
He was also said to be engaged in real estate operations and participated in tenant removals.

His killing has caused national trauma and triggered an outpouring of tributes from his followers, the authorities and political parties.
A cabinet official commented he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's murder.
"He spoke his truth without fear or favour. He even criticized me and my decisions as a public official. He was a true embodiment of who we ought to be," the minister added.
A public representative said the "audacious attack of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a trauma for all South Africans".
A broadcasting director expressed that "Stock was far beyond a face of a reality series. He was a talented storyteller, a true devotee of sound and a warm soul who brought joy and energy to every moment on screen. His artistic passion left an indefinable mark."
In a communication, the broadcaster he worked for declared Stock was known for his magnetism, warmth and quick humor, adding that his memory "will live on".
